Garden Court Permenant Supportive Housing Project Receives $1.7 Million from IHCDA

Permanent Supportive HousingThe permanent supportive housing project proposed for West Jefferson Street, immediately to the west of Centier Bank received great news Friday afternoon from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).

Garden Court, Inc., a graduate of the Indiana Supportive Housing Institute (ISHI), was awarded over $1.7 million that will go towards the new construction of an 18 unit housing project intended for individuals facing homelessness.

This grant award will allow the project to move forward with final architectural drawings and engineering for the project along with acquiring the property for the project.

Brent Martin, local architect said Thursday, during the What’s Your Opinion Show that the grant would assure that construction on the project could begin early fall with completion anticipated for the fall of 2020.

This project will provide 18 apartments, four will have three bedrooms, ten will be two bedrooms and four will be one bedrooms.

Total cost for the permanent supportive housing project is just over $2.5 million.  The remaining amount has been funding by $50,0000 from the Marshall County Community Foundation, up to $350,000 from the City of Plymouth, additional grants, non-profits and other sources.

Those living in the facility will be offered mental health and addition counseling, education and financing services and assistance securing help from other agencies.
