The board approved the contract with Langfeldt Excavating to demolish the structure at 400 East Jefferson Street.  Langfeldt had the low quote of $12,300.  The contract calls for the demolition to be complete within 90 days.

Councilman Jeff Houin asked Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds about the plan and progress at the apartment building at the corner of Broadway and Harrison Street.  Hammonds said a plumber has been hired to repair the water and gas lines.

The water issue in the basement of the 1st United Methodist Church at 400 North Michigan Street has been determined to be the responsibility of the church according to Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt and Engineer Rick Gaul.  Surveying the area it was determined that three of the downspouts on the building are contributing to the issue.  The city will send a letter to the church detailing the problems they located.

The board of public works approved the city engineer’s request to receive bids for the Spring 2020 Street & Sidewalk Community Crossings Grant Projects.   Bids will be received for a project on Ferndale Street and on Airport Road at the November 25th meeting and be awarded at the December 9th meeting.

The board also approved three requests to close streets.  The PIDCO railroad crossing will be repaired November 13 to the 15.  Jefferson Street will be closed on Veteran’s Day, November 11th  for the ceremony at the court house at 11 a.m. and North Michigan Street will be closed from Adams Street to LaPorte Street for the Lighted Christmas Parade and Tree Lightening on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

It was also noted that the meeting city meeting will be held on Monday, November 11th, Veteran’s Day.
