Pacers_holiday gifts_3Over 1,000 Plymouth Community School Corporation students in grades Pre-K through 4th went home after school on Monday with a new toy thanks to the Indiana Pacers!

pacers_Holiday gift_5 ChiefPlymouth Police Chief Dave bacon was a bit suspicious when he received an email notifying him that the Plymouth Police Department had been selected to receive 2,000 new toys from the Indiana Pacers. In this age of scams and spam, the Chief contacted another community that was listed as receiving the toys last year.  He found out it was genuine and a true gift to the community.   The problem was determining how to distribute 2,000 brand-new toys.

Pacers_holiday gifts_1Getting together with Mayor Senter and his staff it was decided to give each elementary school child a new toy for Christmas.  The extra toys will be distributed to the Neighborhood Center for their annual Christmas distribution.

Mayor Mark PacersOn Monday morning over 1,000 Plymouth elementary school students attended a rally at Plymouth High School. Students were welcomed by Mayor Mark Senter.  He took time to thank Mr. Benner co-founder of JAKKS Pacific Toys and Pacers owner Herb Simon for the positive things that they have been able to do throughout the state over the years.  The Mayor said, “This is going to make a really big difference to some of the kids who might not otherwise have a very bright Christmas.”

Pacers_holiday gift_2It’s the tenth year the popular NBA franchise has had its mascots, Boomer and Freddy Fever, and a couple of Pacemates visit schools throughout the state to distribute toys. More than half a million toys have been distributed over that time.  The students each received a toy when they got back to their respective schools.
