Bremen track opens at Bulldog open
BREMEN – The Bremen track teams closed out a hard working preseason on Saturday at the Bulldog Invite on the campus of Purdue Fort Wayne. The girls competed in the open class, which was composed of 14 other schools. Many new faces joined the girls team this year and got their first taste of high school track and field.
The boys competed in the open division against 12 other schools. For many of the athletes, it was the first time they were able to fully complete approaches and jumps on the season, but that didn’t stop them from besting marks and times from last year.
Highlights of the meet included the girls 4×400 of senior Brylie Libey, sophomore Lauren Miller, and freshmen Zoey France, and Caroline Bickel finishing 7th overall. Libey also took 10th in the high jump. Raven White tied for 2nd place in pole vault in the open division. France also took 12th in the long jump while senior Rachel Hall finished 11th overall in the 3200 m run.
Highlights of the meet for the boys included senior Justin Zumbrun placing 6th in the 60 m hurdles (state ranked 20th on time) and 5th in the long jump. Senior Evan Manges finished 8th in the 60 m hurdles (state ranked 22nd on time) and 4th in the high jump (tied for 11th in the state). Zumbrun and Manges helped juniors Zack Miller and Evan Yoder to a 4th place finish in the 4×200 relay with a blistering time of 1:38.23, good enough to rank the team 10th in the state for the 1-3A class. Yoder also finished 8th in the long jump and 4th in the 60 m dash with a 7.41, ranking him 21st in the state for 1-3A. The 4×400 relay of Miller, Zumbrun, Cameron Napier, and Jacob Heighn finished in 8th. The boys distance medley team of Tyler Smith, Seth Young, Logan Fish, and Lextin Willis also finished in 8th overall.
Both teams head to LaVille next week on Tuesday March 19 for their first outdoor meet of the season.
