Plymouth Color Logo2014The City of Plymouth needs to cut over $1 million dollars from the 2020 budget request according the Clerk/Treasurer Jeanine Xaver.

Monday evening council members had the opportunity to hear department heads explain their budget request and then council members could question them on a variety of things including increases.  They also heard recommendations from the Clerk on balancing next year’s budget.

Jeanine Xaver said estimated max levy will bring in $7,096,764 and the 2020 budget requests were $8.6 million.  Her first recommendation was to make cuts to the capital expenditures.  She also suggested the city stop making donations to everyone who asks for them.  She said last year the city offered assistance in the amount of $577,000 to non-governmental entities.  She commented that she had just written a check for $355,000 for the Supportive Housing Project.

The only two cuts made Monday evening was $50,000 for an ice skating facility out of the Park & Recreation budget and $3,000 from the Aviation budget from the Other Materials line item.

While city council members may have suggestions on additional cuts, this is the mayor’s budget so he will meet with the clerk/treasurer and work on paring down the budget prior to the public hearing scheduled for September 9th at 6:30 in the council chambers of city hall.  The final budget adoption will be September 23rd at 6:30.
