A Plymouth City employee put his years of training on the Plymouth Fire Department to action Monday and saved the life of a man who was having a sever medical issue.
Just before 1 p.m. Monday Plymouth Police and Fire responded to the initial call of a vehicle into a pole in front of Centennial Park on North Michigan Street.
As emergency responders were heading to the scene, Central Dispatch told them the CPR was in progress.
During the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting Monday evening, Fire Chief Rod Miller was asked by Mayor Senter to speak about the incident. The chief said it appeared a smaller blue car was south bound on Michigan Street and crossed the north bound lanes, went up over the curb and sideswiped a utility pole in front of the park.
Employees from the park department were in the area and immediately responded to the scene. The park employees were able to get the man out of the vehicle and on the ground. Greg Carroll, a park employee and fire fighter jumped into action determining that the man was in some kind of cardiac distress. He immediately began CPR.
Chief Miller told the Board of Public Works and Safety that the efforts of Carroll were positive and EMS was able to transport the man to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment of the medical issue he was experiencing.
Carroll told WTCA he has been training for these types of emergencies situations for 16 years. He also said it was a team effort of park employees that save the man’s life.
