County News # 1County Extension Director, Karen Richey from Marshall County Purdue Extension appeared before the County Commissioners on December 16th with the annual agreement for contractual services of the Extension Department through Purdue.  She also presented an annual report of services provided to the county through the department.

All 92 counties in Indiana have an extension education office. They offer education opportunities for many in the county through Health and Human Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources and 4-H Youth Development.

Richey told the Commissioners the 2020 budget was approved by the County Council with some revisions and reductions.

The contractual services agreement for next year with Purdue and the County is $114,500.     Richey said this is the first time in her 29 years with the department that she has had to appear before the commissioners seeking approval of the agreement.  In the past the County Council has approved the budget and the County Auditor signs the agreement for Purdue.

It was brought forth at the County Attorney’s request to have the commissioners approve the contract as presented.  He also noted that agreement states they will give an annual report to the county.   Richey said she is more than willing to give regular reports to the Commissioners and Council.
