19893 U.S. 6The Marshall County Commissioners turned down a request to rezone the property at 19893 U.S. 6 in Walkerton during their meeting Monday.

County Plan Director Ty Adley presented the case for Mr. Liddawi who owns the property.  It was formerly a motel and now is a used car lot.  Liddawi wanted to also have yard barns for sale on the property so he approached the Marshall County Plan Commission to rezone the property from A-1 to C-1.

The plan commission and the Technical Review Committee both recommended denial of the request to rezone the property.

Mr. Liddawi told the commissioners the property has been used as commercial since 1955 and assessed on his property taxes as commercial.  He questioned why they wouldn’t rezone it.

Commissioner Stan Klotz said the county’s comprehensive plan shows the area as agricultural and the recommendation of the Plan Commission and TRC play into my decision making.

Both Commissioner Kevin Overmyer and Klotz voted to deny the request.

It was noted that Liddawi could apply for a variance of use to sell the yard barns on his property.
