Elkhart Christian a winner at LaVille

LAKEVILLE – LaVille Lady Hoops played host to Elkhart Christian Academy in a varsity only high school basketball game Tuesday at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium.
The Eagles used an 8-of-10 performance from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to rally for a 32-28 victory. It was the first ECA victory at LaVille since a 38-31 decision on November 20, 2000.
The non-conference foes battled back and forth early on before LaVille took a 13-6 lead midway through the second period. Baskets by Allison Giles and MaKenna Tribbey, along with a 3-pointer from Madelyn Fuchs put the hosts up by seven.
The Elkhart guests rallied with three key field goals and a free throw to make it 17-13 LaVille at halftime.
The Lancers pushed its lead to 24-20 after a baseline jumper by Allison Medors put LHS up 24-20 with 31 seconds left in the third quarter. However, ECA’s Ashley McKibbin played a key role in putting the Eagles up 26-24 with 5:48 left in the game. It would ultimately be a lead ECA would never relinquish as Elkhart Christian Academy hit 5-of-6 charity tosses down the stretch, while the Lancers simply could get shots to fall.
ECA’s Ashley McKibbin led all scorers with 16 points, including 10 crucial points in the second half.
LaVille was led by Kassi Watts with seven points. Fuchs canned a pair of treys for six points and the inside duo of Lucy Sherk and Allison Medors added four points each. Medors hauled down 10 rebounds, Sherk had six boards, and Natalie Gonzalez four assists.
LaVille falls to 1-6 overall and will travel to Triton on December 4 for a Hoosier North Athletic Conference showdown with the Trojans.
