Paint the viaduct 6-29-19_1Twenty-Four volunteers descended on the Historic Railroad Viaduct on South Michigan Street in downtown Plymouth this past weekend determined to greatly improve the appearance.  The goal was to scrape and prepare the eastern (north bound traffic) span on Saturday and prime and paint the steel girders on Sunday.  A separate crew worked on clearing brush along the western limestone abutment.   Saturday was hot and muggy, so even though the project wrapped up ahead of schedule at 3 pm, the crew was pretty worn out.   Spearheaders, Brent Martin and Schoberg & Schoberg Painting are still a little amazed at the transformation.   Wow!   What an improvement!

Paint the viaduct 6-29-19_2The project is limited to preparing and painting the face of the steel girders and the center concrete pier as well as general clean up of the sidewalks and surrounding brush.   A plan is already in place to improve the limestone abutments in the future.

paint the viaduct 6-29-19_3Next weekend’s plan is to accomplish the same thing on the western (south bound) span.  They will have an additional lift this coming weekend, so if a few more volunteers can commit to Saturday morning in particular, that would help the knock out the work earlier in the day, which would be great!   If you would like to volunteer, you can do so by signing up on the following link:
