County BuildingThe Marshall County Commissioners will meet Monday Morning, February 18th beginning at 9:30 in their second floor meeting room of the County Building.

Agenda for the meeting includes a public hearing on an ordinance establishing an inmate processing fee for convicted inmates in the Marshall County Jail.  The ordinance proposes a $50 fee each time a convicted person has been booked into the jail.   The fee can be waived when the courts determine the inmate is indigent, if they are held for another agency for a per diem payment and if an inmate is being held for safekeeping for another agency.  The inmate processing fee will be added to the convicted inmate’s fines and court costs as an additional cost.

The funds collected will be placed in a new fund in the Sheriff’s Department and can be used for inmate education and counseling and for equipment, education and training for the jail and jailers.

Also on the agenda is a public hearing for the rezoning request of George Hopple for a piece of property that sits behind Allied Waste on State Road 17 at Burr Oak.  Hopple wants to change the zoning from A-1 to I-2 so he can relocate his excavating and material recovery business to the property.

The County’s Technical Review Committee (TRC) met and discussed the proposed rezoning.  Concerns included what is being dumped into the property, whether any hazardous material will be involved and the history of non-compliance with the property owner.  There recommendation was denial.

County Plan Director Ty Adley also recommended denial and suggested he go through the Board of Zoning Appeals and seek a variance of use with conditions.

The Commissioners will also hear the annual report from the planning department, an update from the EMA director, discuss the 2019 vehicle purchase for the Sheriff’s Department and a grant request from the Prosecutor.

The Commissioner’s meeting is open to the public and comments and questions are always welcome.
