Marshall COunty Court House West sideMarshall County Prosecutor Nelson Chipman held a press conference Thursday afternoon to announce that a crash in Marshall County on Dec. 12  involving a truck and school bus that resulted in the death of a student of Winamac Schools would be reviewed by a Grand Jury in February in Marshall County.
Chipman said in the interest of transperancy his office was announcing that the case would be part of Grand Jury deliberation that will begin on February 4. Chipman said that the Grand Jury had already been convened on Nov. 28 for other matters and the crash was simply added to the docket.
The Grand Jury was convened before the accident for other matters, Chipman declined to elaborate on what those matters were.
Chipman said that assistant prosecuting attorney Matt Sarber would be handling the case for his office, and stated that the decision was based on allowing the citizens on the jury to decide what was proper justice in the case that centers on “proper driving behavior”. He stated that his office would not be “advocating for a particular decison” but would allow the jury to decide based on the evidence.
