StudentPlymouth Police were dispatched to the intersection of Michigan and Jefferson Street Wednesday morning at 7:55 for a car versus pedestrian accident.

The driver of vehicle, 63 year old Susan Butzer of Bremen told Officer John Weir that she was southbound on Michigan Street, stopped in the right turn lane, waiting to turn right to travel west on Jefferson Street.   She began to turn right on the red light when her vehicle struck a pedestrian that was walking eastbound crossing Michigan Street.   Butzer said that she did not see the pedestrian crossing in front of her vehicle prior to turning.

The pedestrian was a male juvenile that complained of pain, but declined transport to the hospital.  The pedestrian stated that the crosswalk light was illuminated for him to cross.

Plymouth EMS attended to the young man at the scene.

Plymouth Community School Superintendent Andy Hartley said, “We received word yesterday morning that a student had been hit by a vehicle while crossing at Michigan and Jefferson.  It is a part of our protocol to have someone be at the scene of an accident such as this. We arrived at the location and were thankful that the student did not suffer any major injuries.

We have a great community, and I’m confident that we all will appreciate everyone’s efforts to be patient and aware while driving – not only of those who are walking to or from school or a bus stop, but also being aware of our buses that are stopping to pick up or drop off students.”
