Indiana’s unemployment rate drops to 3.5 percent for June and remains lower than the national rate of 3.7 percent. The monthly unemployment rate is a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicator that reflects the number of unemployed people seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force.
Marshall County’s unemployment rate for June 2019 was 3.0 ranking us 62nd of the 92 counties. In May the rate was 2.8. Looking back, in April it was 2.3, March saw a rate of 3.2 and February was 4.1.
Looking even further back at the Marshall County unemployment rate, in 2018 rate was 3.0; 2017 was 2.6; 2016 was 3.6 and 2015 was 4.0.
Taking a looking at the counties surrounding Marshall you will find LaPorte 8th on the list of counties with a rate of 4.1.
Starke County is close behind LaPorte at 13th with a rate of 3.8.
Saint Joseph County is 26th on the list with a rate of 3.6.
Elkhart County is not 60th on the list of counties with a rate of 3.0.
Fulton County is 67th with a 2.9.
Kosciusko County is 76th with a rate of 2.8.
Indiana’s labor force had a net decrease of 10,126 over the previous month. This was a result of a decrease of 3,123 unemployed residents and a decrease of 7,003 employed residents. Indiana’s total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stands at 3.39 million, and the state’s 64.8 percent labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 62.9 percent.
In addition, regular unemployment insurance claims in the reference week (12th of the month) continue to decline in 2019.
