Shortly before 11:30 AM Thursday, December 26th, K-County emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Packerton Road and 400 S for a reported collision. It was determined that a red 2007 Dodge Journey driven by Nicole Smith, 36, of Pierceton had been traveling northbound on Packerton Rd, approaching 400 S, prior to the crash. The Journey failed to stop at CR 400 S and continued across the roadway. After striking a stop sign, the Journey went down an embankment and struck a tree. Heavy fog was present at the time of the crash.Firefighters extricated Smith from the vehicle, a minor backseat passenger was not injured. Smith was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital by EMS, with a complaint of pain.
The Winona Lake Police Department, Pierceton Police Department, Indiana DNR, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Lutheran EMS, Claypool Fire Department and the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory responded to the scene.
