Fatal_Fire_logoShortly after 3:00 P.M. on Friday, November 01, the Marshall County 911 Center received a report of a residential fire.

Culver Fire and EMS responded to an address on 19b Road southwest of Culver.  Upon their arrival, responders found Allen E. Jones age 67 dead from severe thermal burns and probable carbon monoxide poisoning.

Marshall County Coroner John Grolich said, “From all indications, it appears Mr. Jones was smoking with medical oxygen on while in his hospital bed, which increased the chance of a fire in the proximity.”  An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

There were also family pets that died as a result of the fire.

Culver Fire quickly managed the fire and remained on scene several hours and assisted the State Fire Marshal’s Investigator to determining the cause and origin of the fire.

The fire remains under investigation.

Assisting the Coroner’s office on the scene were Culver Fire and Culver EMS, NIPSCO, Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
