Moonlight Serenade 2019The 76th annual Moonlight Serenade will be conducted Saturday, July 13. The Culver Summer Schools & Camps tradition presented by the Naval Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band will begin aboard the R.H. Ledbetter at the Naval Pier at 8:45 p.m.

The Band will give a performance at the Culver Town Park at approximately 9 p.m.; then travel down the West Shore of Lake Maxinkuckee, followed by the East Shore. Lake residents are asked to help light the three-mast, square rigger’s course by placing luminarias along the lakefront piers. Sunday, July 14, will be the rain date.

A summer staple since its inception in 1943 by Col. Edward Payson ’22, the Moonlight Serenade began aboard the O.W. Fowler, the predecessor to the Ledbetter. Band members and the Ledbetter crew will take their positions as the sun sets, and start playing old favorites for Culver residents and visitors along the Maxinkuckee shoreline.

The evening is made possible by the Ann M. Smitson Moonlight Serenade Endowment.
