The term signing day likely conjures up the thought of an athlete or athletes signing a National Letter of Intent to advance to the next level moving from high school athletics to the collegiate level. However, in the Health Careers program at Plymouth High School, the CTE Signing Day event on Monday centered around a dozen-plus seniors advancing to the next level with their nursing career.
This is the first time the North Central Area Vocational Cooperative (NCAVC) has hosted a signing day and from the looks of it, the event was extremely rewarding for both the students who were signing to move to the college level to study nursing and the many guests who were in attendance. All students who signed on Monday successfully completed the two-year Health Careers program earning their CNA, and they will all be attending college in the fall to build on the education they have already received through this dual credit college program taught at PHS. The two-year Health Careers program is open to students from 10 nearby school corporations/districts that make up the NCAVC.
In the Health Careers morning class, five students took part in Monday’s signing day as first-year students in the program cheered them on. Carissa Fields, Hannah Ciula, and Zoe Butler will all be attending Indiana University South Bend to study nursing in the fall. Senior Sydnee Smith will attend the University of Indianapolis, Gabby Ruiz will head to Butler University and senior Margret Knowlton will attend Ancilla College.
As for the afternoon Health Careers class, Plymouth High School students Isabel Huizar, Tess Petzke and Destiny Centeno will all attend IUSB this fall, along with their LaVille High School classmates Aubrey Shafer, Reese Gallup, Amber Wells and Aubrey Stacy of John Glenn High School. Plymouth High School seniors Citlalli Jurado and Elizabeth Mendez have been accepted into St. Mary’s College; Halle Reichard (PHS) will attend Purdue University, Brittney Klotz (PHS) will study nursing at Grace College, Kimberly Baca (PHS) has been accepted into the nursing program at Ivy Tech Community College and Alison Overmyer of Argos High School will attend the University of Indianapolis.
