standoff_graphic_mediumPlymouth Police were involved with an armed standoff Wednesday morning, February 6th.

At 9:42 officers with the Plymouth Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a Honda passenger car on Western Avenue, south of Hoham Drive.  The traffic stop was due to a report of a possible intoxicated driver.

Stopping the vehicle at Western and Hoham, the driver displayed a handgun and threatened to harm himself.

Officers took a defensive position and started to communicate with the male driver, who was the only occupant of the suspect vehicle.

Ultimately an Indiana State Police Detective made telephone contact with the suspect, identified at 47 year old Brad Morcombe of Plymouth.  Telephone negotiations continued until the suspect agreed to relinquish his weapon and surrender.  The suspect has been taken to a facility for a psychological evaluation.

There were not any injuries to any officers or the suspect.

The investigation continues and a report will be filed with the Marshall County Prosecutor.  The Plymouth Police Department was assisted by Plymouth EMS, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, and Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team.
