Leanor Papai is from Anderson, Indiana has always been interested in art. Even as a child she had a gift for drawing and constantly endeavored to learn as much as she could. Over the years, Leanor has taken many workshops and classes and continues to study in the arts. Some of the artists she has studied with are: Skip Lawrence, Ann Templeton, Paul Sweaney, the late Helen Newman, and most

recently, Diane Tesler of Torpedo Art School in Alexandria, Virginia. Leanor shared, “Being with other artists energizes me and keeps the creative juices going”.

Since retiring from nursing, painting has become her passion. The challenge to continually become better drives her. Leanor’s artwork is mostly done with oils, but she enjoys varying her media and also works in watercolor, pastels, and mixed media.

Leanor is an active member of the Art Association of Randolph County, the Art Association of Madison County, the Watercolor Society of Indiana, the Hoosier Salon, and the Indiana Artists Club, Inc. As an award-winning artist, she has exhibited locally as well at the Southeastern Art Guild of Aurora, the Art Barn of Valparaiso, the Harrison Gallery in Indianapolis, and the Indiana State Fair.

During their traveling adventures she takes time to paint en plein aire (painting the reality of a outside setting, not from a photo reference). Many of the paintings on display at Heartland Artists Gallery are from their travels.
