Pilgrims through first round unbeaten
NAPPANEE — The Plymouth Pilgrims were the only team to go undefeated in first-round action of the NLC Tennis Tourney Wednesday night at Northwood High School. Northridge and Northwood both went 4-1 on the night.
#1 Singles player Grant Houin advanced with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over his Goshen opponent. Grant is seeded #4 and will be facing the #1 seed in the tournament from Northwood.
#2 Singles player Nic Bagley knocked off his Elkhart Memorial opponent 6-2, 6-3. Bagley, the #3 seed will be facing the #2 seed from Goshen Thursday night.
Bennett Christy at #3 Singles took down his opponent from Goshen 6-1, 3-6, and 6-4. Bennett, the #4 seed will now face an unseeded player from Warsaw. The unseeded player from Warsaw upset the #1 seed from Northwood.
#1 Doubles players Drew Harrell/Adam Hunter defeated their opponent from Goshen 7-5, 6-1. Harrell/Hunter are the #2 seed and they will face the #3 seed from Concord.
Finally, the #2 Doubles team of Ethan Strain/Hugh Smith defeated their unseeded opponent from Wawasee 6-2, 6-3. They will take their #3 seed and try to upset their #2 seed opponents from Northridge.
Play continues tonight starting at 4:00 at Northwood High School. The final round is scheduled for Concord High School starting at 9:00 Saturday morning.
