Band Christmas Spectacular 2019_1On Friday and Saturday, December 6th and 7th, the Plymouth High School Music Department will present the 10th annual Christmas Spectacular program. This production will all of the students in the band, choir, and orchestra programs and the many ensembles within each of those departments.

The first-ever Christmas Spectacular was held in 2009 with a single production on a Sunday afternoon. PHS band director, Bryan Ames, developed the program as a way to unite the music department for a single Christmas program that would feature the talents of the many students in the music programs at Plymouth. “Most of our performances were separate at that time and I wanted a way to bring all of our students together on stage at the same time to create something much more special than divided winter concerts. This created a chance for all of our students to join forces in one production and perform together as a single entity,” said Ames. “It has been fun to watch this program develop and grow over the last decade. It has evolved into a production that now requires multiple dress rehearsals and two productions.”

Band Christmas Spectacular 2019This year’s production will include several merged performances featuring different elements of the music program coming together to create special performances. “This year, the orchestra is adding many of the band members to perform a full orchestra selection while the jazz band and the choir will join together for a fun version of Sleigh Ride.” Additionally, the entire music department will perform several selections together with over 200 students musicians on stage performing at once.

Tickets are only available at the event and will go on sale at 6:00 p.m. The doors will open to the auditorium to begin general admission seating at 6:30 p.m. Both productions begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. All tickets are $5.00 (pre-school and under are free).
