Senator Randy Head 2018In this week’s news release Senator Randy Head said, “Recently, some concerns have been expressed about a potential change in the level of school funding because new data is suggesting that poverty levels in many districts are declining.”

Since the state provides more funding for districts with higher poverty levels, those schools could see a drop in funding in the current version of the budget.

Senator Head said, “The Senate will continue to work on this and carefully consider how to respond to this issue as we adjust school funding levels in the budget.”

The underlying issue – that fewer students are receiving public assistance because of Indiana’s healthy economy – is good news.

He closed his comments by saying, “Making sure we distribute funding to our schools fairly is one of my top priorities, and I will continue to monitor this issue moving forward.”
