Triton School Board Increases Pay Rate for Substitutes

Triton logoThe Triton School Board unanimously approved increasing the daily pay rate for substitutes in both their elementary and Jr/Sr High School during their regular monthly meeting on February 11. Substitutes holding a permit with a high school diploma will be paid at $75 per day, up from $65. Those holding a substitute permit and having completed 60 hours of college credit will receive $80, reflecting a $10 per day increase and substitutes holding both a substitute permit and a teacher license will be paid at $85 per day up from $75.

Hourly substitutes will be paid at level zero of the position they are subbing for at the current rate of $9.42 per hour.

After the meeting, Superintendent Jeremy Riffle indicated the increases were put in place in order to be competitive with other similar school corporations. He said, “We hope to be able to attract more substitutes. “ Riffle said building principals have been covering classes when substitutes were not available.

Make-up school days were set at February 19, April 19 and June 3-5. The State of Indiana requires students to receive instruction for 180 days each school year.

Riffle said the last day for student attendance will be June 5. The graduation date of June 9 will continue as planned since Triton High is a Performance Standard School and maintained an “A” or “B “ grade from the state.

In other matters, the board approved a retaining wall fence ($8,001.15), a trailer to be used throughout the corporation, a maintenance lift and summer programming.

New hires approved include Rodney Younis, varsity football coach; Jason Arvesen, varsity wrestling assistant coach; and Jennifer Schaetzle, special education teacher TES.
