U.S. Senators Todd Young (R-Ind.) and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) Wednesday voted to confirm Damon Ray Leichty from South Bend to be United States District Judge for the Northern District of Indiana. Mr. Leichty was confirmed by the full Senate vote of 85-10.
“When President Trump and I were elected, Indiana was facing a judicial emergency. Fortunately, in the last two plus years, we’ve now confirmed five new well qualified judges in Indiana to remake Hoosier courts for years to come. Damon Leichty is a rock-solid choice to become a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Indiana,” said Senator Young.
“President Trump has kept his promise to nominate great conservative judges and I’m proud to support Damon Leichty for the Northern District of Indiana. Through the selection of Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Damon Leichty, President Trump has already remade the judiciary, moving our country away from activist judges and toward individuals who will uphold the Constitution,” said Senator Braun.
Since President Trump was elected, five new judges have been confirmed in Indiana.Damon Leichty was nominated by President Trump one year ago this month. He received bipartisan support, including former Senator Joe Donnelly joining Senator Young to support his nomination.
Damon Leichty is a partner in the South Bend office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, where he represents clients in federal and state court litigation across the United States. Mr. Leichty served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Robert L. Miller Jr. from 2001 – 2003, whose seat he has been nominated to fill. As a recognized expert on federal practice and procedure, he also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame Law School. He is involved in a number of community organizations, including the Indiana Bar Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of St. Joseph County, and the Family & Children’s Center. Mr. Leichty earned an A.B. from Wabash College, a Master of Letters from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and a J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law.
