Senator Todd Young 1-5-18WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) Tuesday issued the following statement regarding the President’s national emergency declaration:

“After weeks of careful study and discussion, I have decided to vote to preserve President Trump’s national emergency declaration. It is clear that the President’s declaration adheres to decades-old statutes and procedures laid out in federal law, and there is no question that a national crisis exists at our southern border.

“I also share the perspective of those who believe presidential declarations of emergency – including the 31 other emergency declarations still in effect – warrant additional scrutiny from Congress. That is why I will be joining several colleagues in the coming days to introduce a bill that would enhance future oversight of the emergency declaration process.

“Hoosiers can always rely on me to continue to examine every issue closely, to listen to their concerns, and to do what is in the best interest of our state and nation.”
