Highway Superintendent Updates Commissioners on Road Projects

October 20, 2020

County news # 2Jason Peters, Superintendent of the Marshall County Highway Department updated the commissioners on road projects during their meeting Monday.

County Highway employees have completed the Thorn Road project with wedge and level from there the chip and seal ended; the Collins subdivision was wedged and leveled and they were able to complete the in-kind project of paving the parking lot of the Argos Community Building on the fair grounds.

E & B has started milling off butt joints and should begin the resurfacing project this week on King Road between 10th Road to the E & B Plant.  Walsh and Kelly will be completing a repave of 11th Road from South Michigan Road west to the railroad tracks and Castle Drive from 11th Road to Lopine Lane.

County employees will be cleaning up equipment and preparing for winter.  The will also be working in their areas getting caught up on projects.  They tend to fall a little behind when completing road projects because it takes everyone being involved to get them done.

In other highway business the commissioners approved 6 road-cuts or bores: Michigan Road between 5A and 5C to bore a 1 inch gas service to a new NIPSCO customer; soil borings by Earth Exploration for geotechnical analysis for Bridge #5 on Tamarack Road and bridge #9 on Queen Road; boring by BSN in Tippecanoe on Center Street from West Street to the dead-end and on 3B from Fir to Elm Road to bore for cable service; Pretty Lake Trail from Quince to Queen for a new NIPSCO service and on Ivory Court for new NIPSCO electrical service.
