South Bend Man Arrested After Driving Wrong Way on U.S. 31

MugShot_brandon fairchild 12-27-20On Sunday, December 27th about 3:30 in the morning the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center received a transferred 911 call from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department of a wrong way driver on U.S. 31 heading northbound in the southbound lanes from State Road 110.

Marshall County deputies and Argos police were dispatched to the area. At that point Central Dispatch received another 911 call of the wrong way driver at U.S. 31 and 13th Road.

Deputy Ayala located the vehicle northbound in the southbound lanes near U.S. 31 and 12th Road. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle.

The driver identified as 22 year old Brandon Fairchild of South Bend was offered the standard field sobriety testing.  He was then transported to Plymouth Hospital for a chemical test that showed he was three times over the legal limit.

Fairchild was taken to Marshall County Jail where he was booked in for Operating a Motor Vehicle while intoxicated .15% or higher and OWI-Endangering and held on a cash bond for $1500.

Fairchild posted the cash bond about 8 p.m. on Sunday and was released with a court date of January 5th in Marshall Superior Court II.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
