Academy athletes of the month
CULVER – The Culver Academies named their athletes of the month for January.
At the start of the CGA Swim and Dive season, novice diver Olivia Ma could only execute three dives—six are required to compete in a dual meet. By the time of Sectional competition, Olivia could execute a total of eleven dives, and worked her way into the Sectional rotation at Warsaw High School and earned her first Culver varsity letter. Although she did not place at Sectionals, she performed well.
“Olivia continued to push herself when most of us would give up, and she did it with a smile on her face,” said head coach Sarah Youvan. “She worked incredibly hard to make her way into Sectionals this year, often smacking the water when she made mistakes, but got out and dove over and over again until she got it right. She earned it every step of the way,” she added.
In the month of January, Anthony Goeb helped the CMA Varsity Basketball team to a tough road victory over nearby powerhouse Warsaw High School. In that contest, he tallied a total of 10 points, going three for three from the floor, and one for one from the free-throw line, helping to earn his team the 55-47 win. Additionally, Anthony claimed a total of 21 points at home in CMA’s win over West Lafayette, knocking down six three-pointers.
“Anthony has continued to improve his game this year,” said head coach Mark Galloway. “While his scoring is impressive, equally impressive is his toughness and willingness to come up with 50-50 balls on the defensive end. We look forward to watching him continue to make plays throughout the rest of the season and postseason,” he added.
