Berger starts IUSB sweep
TEXARKANA — Indiana University South Bend earned its first sweep of the season on Friday at Texas A&M-Texarkana defeating the Eagles, 2-1 in game one and 9-4 in game two. With the pair of victories, the Titans improve to 5-5 overall.
In what turned out to be a pitcher’s duel in game one, freshman John Glenn alum Robbie Berger was dominant once again on the mound for the Titans en route to a 2-1 victory in game one of the series.
Berger threw 6.0 innings allowing one run on seven hits while striking out a career-high seven. In 25 batters faced the right-hander gave up two extra-base hits and didn’t walk a single Eagle Batter. With the performance on the mound, Berger earned his second win and improved his record to 2-0 this season.
In game two powerful performances on the mound and at the plate led to a 9-4 victory and the Titans first sweep of the season.
IUSB was led by Logan Young who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI.
Junior Matt Smith threw 3.2 innings allowing four runs on five hits and striking out a career-high five batters. Freshman Zack Dobos earned his first save of his career going 3.1 innings giving up just one hit while striking out four.
