The Bourbon Town Council called an emergency meeting on Thursday night to consider a resolution for guidance related to COVID-19 matters. The resolution was aimed at protecting a safe and healthy workplace for the town’s employees. Decisions were made following preventative measures outlined by the Indiana State Board of Health and Center for Disease Control.
The short meeting was live streamed on the town’s Facebook page to allow residents and others to hear the resolution. Council President Ward Byers read the entire resolution aloud prior to the vote.
The resolution will allow the Clerk-Treasurer, Kim Berger, to determine the appropriate needs for her office. It includes, but are not limited to the following: “Restricting public access, encouraging limited face-to-face visits, encouraging the public to call the office to conduct business, utilize the night deposit, online, US Mail to pay utility bills.”
Any use of the Matchette Center and the Park Pavilion, including reservations already in place, will be suspended until further notice. Open air areas of the Town Parks are not affected by the resolution, except for the extent for the ten-persons gathering limit.
Town employees showing any symptoms of COVID-19 will immediately be sent home and encouraged to seek medical care. The resolution includes the following: “Employees will be required to use compensations days, ie sick , vacation or personal days if affected by COVID-19.
All officially out of state travel for employees has been suspended.
Cautions included in the resolution include: “The Town of Bourbon encourages all residents, employees and visitors to Bourbon to adhere to the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control.” “The Town of Bourbon will strictly adhere to all recommendations of the CDC and State of Indiana Health Officers regarding public meetings and gatherings.” This resolution is a guideline based on current information and may be modified in the future. After the unanimous affirmative vote by the three-person council members, Byers referred to the COVID-19 as fluid and ever changing. He said the town would make appropriate changes to the resolution as necessary.
