Viaduct_FinalA request that should have been on the agenda for Monday’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting wasn’t addressed so the Plymouth Common Council took action on it.

Marshall Clevenger, representing the Marshall County Builders Association was seeking permission to attach a banner to the viaduct on South Michigan Street at Pennsylvania Avenue to promote the Home Show.

Mayor Senter said, “It took up 9 months to get permission to paint it.”

Clevenger who is a member of Discover Plymouth said they hung a sign on the viaduct when the city painted the bridge and the Builders Association was hoping to put one on the south side to promote their event.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said, “I don’t think we should be blessing the installation of the sign because it’s not in our jurisdiction.  It’s not our property.”

Councilman Duane Culp said placing anything on someone else’s property is trespassing.  He suggested not getting involved in the request.

The Plymouth City Council unanimously denied the request.
