Deaton_Clemens_VanGilderFuneralHome2-2019 (1)Elaine Lucille (Carlson) Hansen, daughter of Gottfried Carlson and Margaret (Matson) Carlson, died peacefully on May 24th, 2020.

Elaine was born on January 22th, 1931, in Plymouth, Indiana. She was a graduate of Grovertown High School in 1949. She was married to James Henry Hansen of Plymouth on November 25th, 1950. Elaine served for years as the pianist and organist for the Evangelical Covenant Church in Donaldson, IN. She also served in the Hospital Auxiliary in Plymouth for many years. Elaine was a central figure in family gatherings. Her home, especially her kitchen, was always at work for celebrations, holidays, and family gatherings. Her pies, bread, and homemade dishes will live on in legend for generations yet to come. Elaine’s hospitality, both in sweetness and spice, was the personification of a “Swedish Chef” for those that knew her best.

Survivors include her daughter, Charlene Hansen, granddaughter Kalin (Matt) Harding and great-grandsons, Colin, Alex, and James. Daughter-in-law, Suze (Bob Garrity) Hansen-Garrity, grandchildren, Erik (Lindsey) Hansen, Maggie Garrity, Beth (Brent) Corbett, Laura (Rhett) Goodmiller, Kevin (Maureen) Garrity, Michael Garrity, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, son Randy, grandson John, and great-grandson John-Dylan.

A private ceremony will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Donaldson, IN. Memorial contributions made to the Evangelical Covenant Church (P.O. Box 67, 7810 Union Road, Donaldson, IN 46513.
