LEXINGTON – The Indiana University South Bend volleyball team was recognized for its outstanding scholastic efforts for the past academic year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The Titans picked up the United States Marine Corps/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 year after registering a 3.44 cumulative grade point average to earn the honor for the second consecutive year and fourth time in program history.
An association record of 1,313 teams garnered the academic award for the past year. The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale according to the AVCA.
IU South Bend was one of 66 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) women’s volleyball programs to earn the distinction for the 2019-20 year, an all-time record for NAIA women’s teams.
The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference boasted three other programs alongside IUSB that included St. Francis, Olivet Nazarene, and Roosevelt as AVCA Team Academic Award winners.
