LAKEVILLE – LaVille softball coach Scot Shearer has been chosen for induction into the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA) Class of 2020 Hall of Fame based on his contributions to the sport over the last 33 years.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the actual induction will take place in June of 2021.
“This is not something that I expected, but it is very much appreciated and I’m humbled by it,” said Shearer. “For me, it’s been about the kids and the coaches I have worked with. It’s about the relationships with the kids and the coaches. It just epitomizes that I’ve been in the sport a long time. I’ve gotten to do something that I love. This has never been a job for me. Every day has been an opportunity.”
Shearer started as a volunteer coach at Concord HS in 1987 and has been involved in some capacity ever since. He later served as head coach at both Concord and Goshen high schools, as well as being an assistant at NorthWood, before coming to LaVille as an assistant in 2002. He has been the Lady Lancers’ head coach for the past 12 seasons. He led the Minutemen to back-to-back conference championships and is the all-time winningest coach at LV.
Shearer has been involved with the ICGSA for more than 30 years and has been honored by the organization on several occasions, including being chosen the 2013 District 2 Coach of the Year, the 2005 Service Award winner, a North/South all-star game coach and for service at the 20- and 30-year marks. He has been heavily involved on various levels for the organization, including as a member of the softball committee for which he is being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
