On Friday, September 11th at approximately 3:17 P.M. Officer Arnold with the Plymouth Police Department responded to a two vehicle crash in the parking lot of McDonald’s where a black Mercedes convertible had fled the scene of the crash. Later that night at approximately 7:10 P.M. Officer Gilmer with the Plymouth Police Department located the vehicle that had fled from the scene of the crash and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 19 year Laura Castellanos-Figueroa of Plymouth. After an investigation Figureroa was taken into custody for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, OWI Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana and an Outstanding Warrant through Marshall County. She was lodged at the Marshall County Jail and held on a $1,505 bond with no bond set for the warrant.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
