BREMEN – It was so enjoyable the first time, why not do it again?

After winning its first sectional since 2003 last year, and with almost the same lineup returning this season, the Lions defeated Glenn, 5-0 Friday to win their second consecutive sectional championship.

“We played well tonight and we are happy to win any sectional we can win,” said Bremen coach Kevin Hickman. “We have a very good junior class with four very good players and they are the core of the team. We had a good record with them even when they were freshmen.”

Sweeping all five matches from Glenn in the weather delayed final the Lions were almost flawless taking every match in straight sets adding to a very solid string of matches down the stretch.

“Especially the last three weeks we’ve really come along,” said Hickman. “We’ve finally settled on a lineup for us and I think every spot is solid for us.”

“That’s been a big benefit to us because most teams will have a spot or two that you can pick out that are kind of weak and that’s one of our strengths is that we don’t have a glaring weakness at all,” he said.

Playing in the NIC has allowed the Lions to hone their craft in preparation for a tournament run.l

“We have two of the best team’s in the state in our conference in St. Joe and Penn,” said Hickman. “We played Penn earlier in the year and lost 4-1 but we were very competitive. We finished third in the conference tournament and that’s where we were hoping to be. We are having a great year nothing to be unhappy with.”

Now with just one loss on the season Bremen will head to Peru for regional action against the host Tigers.

Peru is hosting, normally the regional would be at CMA but they aren’t allowing anybody on their campus,” said Hickman. “Peru is very strong, (Coach) Mike Saine has been there forever. I believe they have only lost one match all year. CMA is always strong. I would say there are four decent teams there for sure. I’m not sure that you could call any of us a favorite. We haven’t played any of those teams so we’ll see.”

Bremen enters regional play next weekend with a record of 17-1.

Individually advancing will be LaVille’s Kyle Walker, and Plymouth’s #1 doubles team of Easton Strain and Cameron Shively.
