Plymouth Speedway_logo 2016The season point’s race is heating up with several of the division leaders finishing off the podium Saturday evening at Plymouth Speedway. Bradley Jameson is leading the UMP Modifieds points but would have to settle for a fourth place finish Saturday in the 20 car 25 lap feature.
Plymouth’s own Ed Cleveland won the 600cc Non Winged Micro feature pulling within 4 points of Dylan Woodling, the division leader finished in fifth. Lee Hall picked up the victory in the Thunder Stock class and is currently tied for the points lead with Austen Hubbard who finished third.
Ron Wilkes picked up his fourth feature of the season and currently sits on top of the points with John Rhoads only 14 points behind.
The heat didn’t keep any of the competitors away as over 100 cars signed into race. Spectators were treated to 12 heat races and three B mains along with the four features for a full night of racing action.
Curtis Deisenroth won the eight car UMP Modified B-main and pick up the hard charger finishing 12th in the A from his 17th place start. Derek Losh started the A in fifth and would patiently wait in third as Ryan Cripe and Bradley Jameson would race side by side for most of the first 10 laps. That is when Losh saw a small opportunity between them and got the lead that he wouldn’t relinquish. Curt Spalding would start third and after getting shuffled back to fourth would get past Jameson in lapped traffic to finish the night on the podium.
The Thunder Stocks kicked off the A Features with 19 cars taking the green with Hall on the pole with Wally Kerst alongside. RJ Akers started in third, had a rough start almost spinning out on the first lap but was able to correct and challenged Hall several times during the race. Akers would try both the bottom and top to get past Lee but just wasn’t able to compete the pass. Hubbard would have the best seat in the house to watch the action up front funning in third but he was busy holding off Brandon Shelhart. Hall and Hubbard are currently tied for the lead in points and Shelhart is only 25 points behind.
Cleveland started on the front row with Bruce Clay on his outside and these are easily the seniors of the division. Tyler Chalk started in third and he too would finish in his starting position. Cody Williams would pick up the hard charger starting 14th in the 18 car field and would finish 7th. Braxton Hanft gave everyone a moment with a huge flip on the front stretch in his 29H. Hanft would climb out of the car unhurt but his ride will need some attention before the next race.
Super Streets capped off the racing action for the evening with an exciting 20 car event. Wilkes shared the front row with Kory Conner on the Pole. Wilkes wasted no time in grabbing the lead and Conner would battle with Calvin Peek Jr., Tyler Spalding and John Rhoads for much of the first half of the race. Eventually Spalding would claim second and Conner would finish on the podium in third. Joe Clark transferred in to the A with B-main win finishing in 13th, but the hard charger would be Chris Tippit with his 7th place finish from a 12th place start.
