Five divisions of racing produce five repeat winners, several special events on the schedule for speedway

PLYMOUTH — First race back with spectators in the grandstands and they were treated to an exciting evening of racing.
The five featured classes continued with a night of non-points racing which comes to an end next week as the routine begins to come back gradually.
Austen Hubbard of Valparaiso collected the first checkered flag of the evening in the Street Stock division. Hubbard started the race third and spent a good deal of the race-mixing it up with Battleground, Indiana’s Preston Oberle.
The front row at the start was Wally Kerst of Williamsport, and Jason Fritz of Winamac.
Fritz would hang around the front with RJ Akers of Portage taking the lead. Akers would lead most of the feature with Hubbard close behind with eventually Trevor Bitterling from Star City and hard charger of the race Wade Clemmons from Hobart closing.
When Akers suffered a flat left rear Hubbard would inherit the lead and go on to win with Bitterling and Clemmons in second and third.
The 600cc Non-Wing Mini-Sprints had 22 cars take the green flag for their 25 lap feature event. Cody Williams, Rensselaer sat on the pole with Nick Schaefer, Granger on his outside.
Dylan Woodling, Warsaw, started in the second row in fourth. These three got out front from the drop of the green setting a blistering pace with Williams leading Woodling and Schaefer battling with fourth-place finisher fellow Granger resident Chad Hartzell.
That is how they would finish with Jacob Ruppe of South Bend getting the hard charger moving from a 12th starting spot to finish sixth.
UMP Modifieds put on an exciting feature with Todd Sherman, Churubusco, at the lead of the 23 car field. Derek Losh of Rensselaer would start on the outside of the front row and he couldn’t ask for a better starting spot.
Losh jumped out to a lead with Nick Allen, Wheatfield, Ind., in tow. These two would build a lead to lap traffic while the eventual runner up and hard charger Brian Ruhlman, Clark Lake, Mi., would make his way forward from the tenth starting spot.
A yellow at the halfway point would clear lap traffic but bunched the leaders up. Ruhlman would get past Allen and that is how they would finish with Dillon Nusbaum of Warsaw just missing the podium in fourth.
Super Sports had a familiar face back on top of the podium with Ron Wilkes, Lowell, Ind., starting on the front row and was able to get past pole-sitter Andy Bishop, Gas City, In., after several laps. Last weeks winning car with Kody Conner at the wheel this week started fourth and battled with Bishop to finish second. Kyle Anderson of Crown Point moved up five spots from his ninth starting position to finish just off the podium in fourth.
The four-cylinder Mini Stocks would wrap up the evening of racing with an eventful feature that saw several yellows early as the 23 car field took several laps to settle in. James Headley, Wabash, In., collected his third feature in a row with a sixth-place start. He would glance off the outside wall in turn three early in the event but got it gathered up and held on to win. Finishing second was Krystal Spaulding from Roanoke and in third was Larry Bryie Jr., Constantine.
Next week’s regular Saturday night program will get underway with hot lapping at 5:30 p.m. and racing getting underway at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, June 26 is the return of the AMSOIL USAC National Non-Wing 410 Sprint Cars. The gates open at 4 p.m. for this event with hot lapping at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
Justin Grant and Brady Bacon have been the two on top of the podium this season and both run really well at Plymouth Speedway. This will be the second USAC Sprint event in Indiana as the season begins again after the break, look for a big car count as these teams look to get back in action.
Plymouth Speedway is also the beneficiary of a new event scheduled for Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4 as the AMA brings Flat Track racing and fireworks back to Plymouth.
The Speedway will fill a void on the national schedule Flat Track racing with this two-day event that should bring in the top talent in the nation as the premier level of flat track racing will still be several weeks away from resuming action. Racing both days will start at 6:30 p.m.
Other events on the schedule for Plymouth Speedway include the Twin 25 Mod Challenge on Saturday, July 11, and Super Late Models on Tuesday, July 14 as the UMP Hell Tour returns to the “Playground of Power.”
Two-wheeled mayhem returns Friday, July 17 through Wednesday, July 22 when Plymouth hosts the AMA Flat Track Grand Championships. Flat track racers of all types will converge on the Plymouth Speedway for an All-Star Event on Saturday, July 18 and the amateurs will compete in three different flat track disciplines Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
