On Saturday, March 14th at approximately 3:00 A.M. Officer Bennett with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Michigan Road and 2A Road. The driver of the vehicle identified as Troy B. Wieringa of Plymouth was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Mr Wieringa was transported to St. Joseph Regional Hospital for a certified test and taken into custody on charges of Possession of Marijuana, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated-Endangering a Person and Operating a Vehicle with a Controlled Substance with bond set at $1,505 bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
