Mishawaka Pair Arrested in Bourbon Police Pursuit

police-pursuitA police pursuit early Sunday morning ended with two people being arrested.

About 2:15 in the morning on Sunday, Officer Truty with the Bourbon Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on US 30 near Elm Road.  The vehicle, a black 2007 Chevy Impala was westbound and failed to stop for the officer and fled at a high rate of speed.

A pursuit continued westbound on US 30.  The vehicle struck stop-sticks placed by Marshall County Police near King Road.  The vehicle continued westbound at a high rate of speed until it stopped on the US31 northbound on ramp.

Austin Bennett, 22, and Elizabeth Conway, also 22 both of Mishawaka were arrested.

mug_austin bennett 3-2021Bennett, a wanted felon, out of St. Joseph County was lodged in the Marshall County Jail with charges of Dealing in a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Meth, Possession of Paraphernalia, Resisting Law Enforcement and Obstruction of Justice.  His Marshall County cash bond was set at $1,500.

mug_elizabeth conway 3-2021Conway was lodged in the County Jail for Dealing in a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Meth, Possession of Paraphernalia, Resisting and Obstruction of Justice.  Her cash bond was also set at $1,500.  Conway was released about 11 a.m. after posting bond.

The pair are scheduled to appear in Marshall Superior Court II on March 23rd.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made
