Marianne Peters, Executive Director of Marshall County Solid Waste District Management made a request to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety last week concerning an open burn.
Peters explained the project. The plan is to burn off the area at the front of the property on Walter Glaub Drive where there is a wild prairie and a retention pond. Her request said Leeper Land Management from Bremen will conduct the burn and renovations.
In a phone conversation with Fire Chief Rod Miller, Peters was told that Assistant Chief Steve Holm would need to assess the area prior to the burn.
The one-and-a-half-acre burn is being conducted by the end of the month is in preparation for a restoration project that will take about a year and a half to be completed.
Leeper Land Mgt. will also treat the entire retention basin with herbicide, remove scrub trees and bush hog the area with additional mowing of the upland area over the summer months.
In the fall of 2021 Leeper will treat the upland area with herbicide again.
Then in the spring of 2022 there will be a final herbicide treatment and the ground will be seeded with grass and native seed and mowing in July.
Future maintenance for the prairie will be spot treatments for Reed Canary Grass and other invasive species and mowing.
