On Wednesday, January 27th at 9:38 A.M. an inmate from the Marshall County Jail identified as 35 year old Jeffrey Campbell of Argos was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Plymouth.
While at the hospital, inmate Campbell was using a bathroom when forced a door closed and lock it from the inside. From inside the bathroom, Campbell removed several ceiling tiles to access a metal platform above the ceiling in an attempt to escape custody.
Officers from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Plymouth Police, and Indiana State Police responded to the Hospital where the inmate was quickly located within the ceiling over the Emergency Room.
Campbell refused to comply and come down voluntarily and attempted to elude officers after being located. Officer’s quickly apprehended Campbell using ladders and was removed from the ceiling.
A report will be forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor for review of additional charges of Escape from lawful detention and resisting Law enforcement.
Jeffery Campbell’s incarceration stems from being taken into custody Monday, January 25th, at 10:00 A.M. as he meet with Community Corrections and failed a Urine Drug Screen and was taken into custody.
While waiting for transport Campbell fled from the office on foot. Director Byers and Field Officer Jeff Sharp took immediate chase.
Director Byers located Campbell running across the parking lot towards a vehicle. Director Byers caught Campbell attempting to enter the vehicle at which time a struggle occurred, Campbell continued struggling attempting to flee.
After the struggle, Campbell was detained and transported to the County Jail.
Campbell was sentenced to Community Corrections December 31, 2020 on a misdemeanor charge of Resisting Law Enforcement.
Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office has formally charged Campbell with Attempted Escape, Level 5 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement with additional charges pending for the escape that at the hospital.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
