Local News 2017Monday morning the Marshall County Community Table met for their weekly meeting.

During the meeting Chris Gardner Executive Director of the Marshall County Neighborhood Center spoke on the drop in clients needing assistance for the month of January due to clients receiving Stimulus Checks.

Gardner expressed that this year they are taking steps in helping clients to become more self-efficient with a “Hand Up”, not a “Hand Out”. The Center’s main question for clients will be, How has Covid-19 affected you in the last 90 days as seeking employment is being encouraged.

The main topic of discussion however was the big hit the Marshall County Neighborhood Center will feel as this year’s main fundraiser, Dancing with the Stars will be held virtual in February.

In year’s past the fundraiser has brought in between $115,000 to $125,000 with year’s goal being set at $100,000.

Terri Brandt with Bread of Life Food Pantry spoke on the 2020 numbers where she said that 32,000 individuals were assisted with some of those numbers being repeat individuals from time to time.

With the Bread of Life Food Pantry’s ability to access free food from different sources a little under $15,000 was paid out for food during 2020.
