Last week, Barb Holcomb who helped to create the Marshall County COVID Call Center spoke on WTCA about the services available.
The call center is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. although the County Health Department will answer the phone from 8 to 9 and 3 to 4. The Marshall County COVID Call Center number is 935-8568 option 8. You can also email questions to covid19response@co.marshall.in.
The call center can tell you where testing is available and at what point you should consider getting tested. They can give details on symptoms and information on vaccines. If you are interested in getting a vaccine those 80 and older can schedule an appointment by going to ourshot.in.gov or by calling 211.
Currently the vaccine is being given at Saint Joseph Hospital in Plymouth and Mishawaka. You do not have to reside in Marshall County to be vaccinated there although you must be an Indiana resident to receive a vaccine at either location.
If someone not in the vaccine priority list has a preexisting condition, they cannot be vaccinated earlier than their age group. Right now the health department and hospitals are following the phases as released by the state.
If the State of Indiana receives enough vaccine there will be a mass vaccination site in the future. Currently the Health Department is making plans for the mass-vax event but it is dependent on what is received from the State.
There is also a need for volunteers to work at the vaccine clinics. You will not have direct contact with patients but will assist the clinical staff working the clinic.
