Police_PursuitOn Monday, January 25th at approximately 11:30 A.M. Deputy Smith with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was in the area of the 100 block of US 31 and 9A Road attempting to locate a vehicle that had reportedly been involved in a pursuit earlier that morning with the Indiana State Police.

The vehicle in question was located in the area and fled from officers and a pursuit was initiated throughout the south portion of Marshall County into Fulton County with speeds reaching up to 110 mph.

The Indiana State Police deployed stop sticks near the area of US 31 & Olson Road in Fulton County where three of the four tires on the vehicle were punctured.
According to scanner traffic there was a report of an Indiana State Police Trooper suffering a minor injury during the deploying of the stop sticks.

mug_craig martinThe driver of the Maroon hatchback identified as 32 year old Craig Martin of Illinois was taken into custody on the charges of Resisting Law Enforcement, Battery on a Law Enforcement officer, and Reckless Driving. Martins bond was set at $1,505 and was later released after posting bond and received a Marshall County Superior 2 court date of February 16th.

mug_taylor strzempaThe passenger of the vehicle identified as 25 year old Taylor Strzempa of Illinois was taken into custody for Possession of Marijuana with bond set at $255.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
