Public Invited to Deployment Ceremony for 381st MP Unit at National Guard Armory

December 28, 2011

12/29/11 Next week approximately 180 soldiers of the 381st MP Unit from Indiana will be deployed to Afghanistan.  About 90 of the soldiers are from northern Indiana, out of the Plymouth National Guard Armory.   Members of the Plymouth American Legion, VFW, DAV and Plymouth FOP Lodge 195 are planning a deployment ceremony on Wednesday, January 4th

The thirty minute ceremony will be held at the National Guard Armory on West Madison Street at 1 p.m. U.S. Congressman Joe Donnelly, State Representative Nance Dembowski, and Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter will be guest speakers.

Hurshel Hunter from FOP 195 said, “It is my understanding this is a history making event, as this is the first time this unit is being deployed as whole. In the past only a portion of the unit has been deployed.”

When making plans for the deployment ceremony the soldiers only asked for two thing… one being clergy and second was having as many individuals attend the ceremony as possible to show support for their efforts.

Hunter said, “If at all possible we are asking the public to take time out their busy schedule to honor these young men and women who will be going into harm’s way. He continued, “These soldiers are taking time out of their busy schedule to ensure we have the freedoms that are so precious to us as Americans.”
