City Council Takes Next Step in Tax Abatement for AK Industries

  07/30/12 Members of the Plymouth Common Council conducted two public hearings during their meeting last week.

The first public hearing was for annexation of a small portion of Richter Road. City Attorney Sean Surrisi said, “The total amount of this annexation is just a sliver of roadway less and ¼ of an acre.”   There were no comments

The second public hearing was for the tax abatement of AK Industries. Butch Sabo, co-owner with his brother John was on hand as Derek Spier from Marshall County Economic Development Corporation discussed the request.  A plant expansion is planned to added 5,200 square feet of additional space and for the purchase of a new rotational molding machine for their operations.

AK Industries currently has 85 workers in the two manufacturing facilities and their corporate headquarters.  Their plan is to add 4 additional jobs with an average annual wage of nearly $23,000.

The tax abatement request is for real-estate in the amount of $300,000 for 3 years and $500,000 for personal property with a5 year abatement.

A resolution confirming that AK Industries is within an economic development revitalization area was approved.

The Common Council also heard ordinance 2012-2045 and 2046 on first reading.  These two ordinances are the 2013 salary ordinances and include an increase of up to 3 percent.
