NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY IS CHANCE TO STAND AGAINST HEART DISEASE

January 26, 2011

01/27/11 The American Heart Association is encouraging Hoosiers to spice up their attire with a splash of red Feb. 4 in honor of National Wear Red Day.

National Wear Red Day is a national observance created by the American Heart Association, drawing attention to heart disease, the No. 1 killer of men and women, and the strides being taken through research and education to raise awareness of risk factors and decrease death rates. The American Heart Association urges everyone to support the fight against heart disease.

Across Indiana, companies are encouraging employees to wear red to work, illuminating their buildings in red lights, and offering life-saving information to employees. In Indianapolis, the Governor’s Residence will fly Go Red For Women flags throughout the month. Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s solution to save women’s lives.

“February is American Heart Month, and there’s no better way to call attention to the fact that heart disease claims the lives of more than 18,000 Hoosiers every year than by wearing red on National Wear Red Day,” said Dr. Elaine Moen, a cardiologist with The Care Group, the exclusive provider of cardiovascular services to St.Vincent Heart Center of Indiana. “The American Heart Association is making great strides in reducing heart deaths thanks to its life-saving research and programs such as Go Red For Women.”

Macy’s stores will celebrate seven years as a national sponsor of Go Red For Women with exclusive designer fashion, shopping promotions, special in-store events and a whole-hearted campaign with Facebook dedicated to raising funds for the AHA and increasing awareness among women and their loved ones.

In honor of American Heart Month and National Wear Red Day, customers wearing any item of red – from an entire ensemble, to lipstick, to the signature Red Dress pin – will receive a special 20% discount on a wide assortment of merchandise (or a 10% discount on sale and clearance watches and jewelry) at all nationwide Macy’s stores, as part of the retailer’s “Wear Red Sale.” Customers not wearing red can support Go Red For Women and receive the special discount by purchasing the official Go Red For Women red dress pin for $2 at any register. All proceeds from the sale of the pin will go to the Go Red For Women movement, and the customer will enjoy the special Wear Red Sale savings. The Wear Red Sale takes place Feb. 2-6.

Since partnering with the American Heart Association, Macy’s has raised more than $24 million for Go Red For Women.
