04/15/14 Monday night the Plymouth Common Council conducted a public hearing on the Tax Abatement request of AMI Products, formerly knows as Whitley Products.
Derek Spier from the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation and Les Thornton from AMI said the company will be hiring 15 employees for a new product line that will be housed in a 96,000 square foot building at 2400 Walter Glaub Drive. AMI has a 5-year lease on the new facility and will be investing $3.75 million in personal property equipment for the new product line to manufacture tubing for the automotive industry.
AMI plans to hire up to a total of 200 workers by 2016 with an hourly pay of $13. They also offer a full benefit package including a 401 K plan.
With plants in Michigan, AMI looked a expanding there but the incentives from the city and tax credits and training dollars from the state were better here.
The Council unanimously approved a resolution confirming a declaratory resolution designating the real-estate to be in an economic revitalization area.
In other business the City Council accepted the Uniform Conflict Interest Disclosure Statement from Councilman Mike Delp in anticipation of the Redevelopment Commission awarding Michiana Contracting the bid for the Metronet conduit installation project for the city’s portion of the project Tuesday evening. Michiana was low bidder when looking at the base bid and the 4 alternates with a bid of $716,480. The next two bids were $725,488 and $731,797.
